Governed by Le Directeur Général des Élections du Québec, no Montreal specific guidelines are available, those for Quebec should be followed.

  • Election posters and billboards
    • Notwithstanding any inconsistent legislative or regulatory provision, election posters and billboards shall not be subject, during an election period, to any additional restriction or condition except as provided by this Act.
  • Identification of advertising
    • All advertising relating to an election and done during an election period must be clearly identified.
    • Any election advertisement must mention the name and title of the official agent or deputy official agent who had it published.
    • When the case involves a private intervenor, the advertising message or the advertisement on any writing, object or material must mention the name and title of the private intervenor in addition to his authorization number.
  • Improper identification of advertising
    • In no case shall a media make good free of charge an advertisement that has not been identified in accordance with the requirements of the act, or even publish free of charge an erratum.
  • Advertising Rates
    • The cost of the services offered by the media during the election period must be the regular price charged for similar services outside the election period.
  • Advertising is not allowed
    • In the seven days following the day on which the order is issued and on polling day, no person, except the Chief Electoral Officer, may advertise election related information.
    • Vouchers to be provided by the authorized advertising agency
    • Posters and printed material (small format): proof of the advertisement, that is, a sample of the badge, brochure, poster, etc.
    • Banner and billboards (large format): an attestation* from the supplier stating that the name of the manufacturer or printer as well as the name and "official agent" title appear on these items, or a photograph that helps to ascertain this.
